What the Latest Supreme Court
Decision Means To America

Dear friends and partners,
In an historic ruling last Thursday, January
21 the Supreme Court of the United States made a bold
step toward more freedom. In a 5-4 vote the Court struck
down laws that banned private companies, corporations
and unions from using their own money to support or
oppose candidates for public office. It leaves in place
laws that prohibit money being given to candidates for
any use. In other words, funds must be used specifically
for expenses of the campaign.
However, the Supreme Court also struck down part of
the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that barred
union and corporate paid issue ads in the closing days
of election campaigns.
