Believers Stand United Updates

Feb. 20, 2009

Hello Partners and Friends,

During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Kellie and I heard about House Bill 2314 being introduced to the Virginia Legislature. This legislation, brought forward by Delegate Bill Carrico, is called “The Police Chaplain Bill.” The legislation passed the Virginia House with a wide margin and now has gone to the state Senate of Virginia.

Here are the key points:

  • The bill states that no government department nor supervisor nor any other official shall prescribe, proscribe, regulate, limit or dictate the content of the chaplain’s prayer.
  • Each chaplain can pray according to the dictates of his or her own conscience.

Why this is important:

This bill will allow chaplains to pray in Jesus’ Name without fear of intimidation or the threat of losing their position because of their commitment to the Lord.

What you can do:

I invite you to email the senators listed below and to show your support for the Police Chaplain Bill.

Here is the contact information:

Senator Henry Marsh, district16@senate.virginia.gov

Senator Kenneth Stolle, district08@senate.virginia.gov

Senator Thomas Norment, district03@senate.virginia.gov

Thank you very much for your support of this important right for individuals to pray in Jesus’ Name. I’ve included a copy of the bill if you would like to take a moment to read through it.  Also, join me in thanking the author of the legislation, Delegate Charles “Bill” Carrico, for his good work, at delccarrico@house.virginia.gov.

Blessings to you and remember,

JESUS IS LORD!
