Another City Council Stands Up for Prayer
October 2, 2009
Dear BSU Partners,
I'm happy to share with you that another brave mayor and city council has decided to stand up for prayer. Mayor Linda Vernon and the City Council of Tehachapi, Calif. (near Bakersfield), voted 5-0 to allow prayer at the beginning of their meetings.
The organization Freedom From Religion again attempted to intimidate an elected body, BUT the citizens of Tehachapi, through their elected representatives, put a stop to that!! One citizen from the city, Mike Jones, stated before the council, "This Freedom From Religion organization is not an authority on anything, they have bullied people into capitulation."
A local pastor recently ended his prayer at the council meeting by saying, "In Jesus' precious Name." Mayor Vernon said she will not tell pastors or religious leaders how they can pray.
This is another great victory for prayer in America. Join me in taking a moment to thank Mayor Vernon for her intrepid stand for prayer mayorvernon@gmail.com.
Keep freedom strong in your area and remember…JESUS IS LORD!
**More great news:
Last night Mayor Larry Hansen and the City Council of Lodi, California voted 5-0 to keep unrestricted prayer before their Council meetings. Just as the Tehachapi City Council had done a few days earlier.
This is awesome news and more proof that God is honoring our efforts to speak up for religious freedom in America!! Let's keep standing strong together.
