Triumph
out of Tragedy
Jaunary 11,
2011
Dear Believers
Stand United Partners,
I
know many watched on Saturday in shock and disbelief
at the senseless shooting in Tucson, Arizona of 18 people
including Congresswoman Giffords, Federal Judge John
Roll, Pastor Dorwin Stoddard and 9 year old Christina
Green.
Many members of our family were gathered together that
afternoon and we spent time in prayer for all of the
families involved.
We should all be heartened by the courage of our fellow
citizens who took quick action as the craziness unfolded--
Col (ret) Bill Badger age 74 tackled the gunman, 61
year old Patricia Maisch wrestled bullets away from
him as he tried to reload and Roger Salzberger held
the man down until authorities arrived.
In situations like this people often ask, "Where is
God when we suffer?" It is in that question that we
truly understand our complete need for God. And the
answer comes from Pslam 42, "Out of the depths, the
Lord will command His loving kindness in daytime and
His song will be with us in the night."
Yes.... we deal with suffering by listening for God's
song of Hope. What oxygen is to the lungs, so Hope is
to the soul. And when we pray for the dawn of relief
from a night of pain we hear the words of Jesus, "Let
not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
Let's reaffirm our charge to bring respect and sanity
back to political discourse by teaching we can disagree
without being disagreeable and that we can debate without
hate and violence.
We join each of you in continued prayer for those involved
in this recent tragedy and in celebration of the heroes
that have always been a part of our Nation.
