Grassley Targets Six Pentecostal Ministries

Sen. Grassley, a Baptist, has targeted six Pentecostal ministries, demanding that they turn over to him every credit card receipt for the last five years. He has also demanded that at least one of the ministries provide him with the names and addresses of every person or group of persons who has ever spoken or performed music in his church for remuneration since 2004. Staffers in Grassley’s office have said that it is their goal to make it all public. So what is really going on? What is the senator up to? Why are some of the ministries resistant to this? Why does this represent a threat to freedom of religion in America? What does it portend for other faiths?

An End to Popular Christian Television? A New Religious McCarthyism?

“What do you have to hide?”

This is the rallying cry of First Amendment opponents who suggest that the truly innocent need not fear. But history is replete with people of sincere political or religious conviction who have seized the levers of power and used them to destroy those of opposing views. Even modern American history has seen what a powerful senator can do to people foolish enough to trust him with all of their personal history. In the McCarthy hearings, hundreds of private citizens waived their constitutional rights, volunteering everything in the belief that their innocence would protect them, only to see lives and careers publicly destroyed forever. It may be happening again.

Throughout history seismic shifts have occurred—revolutions, sometimes political, sometimes religious, and millions have died. During the great plagues of the Middle Ages, aroused Christians blamed the Jews and massive pogroms resulted in the wholesale slaughter of entire communities. Sometimes these powerful shifts occurred within one family. Queen Mary ascended the throne of England and Protestants were killed. Her sister Elizabeth succeeded her and the Catholics were persecuted instead. From country to country and sovereign to sovereign, anything could happen. People hardly knew how to live in anticipation of the next shift.

The American founders started something new. They not only wrote a constitution, whose First Amendment protected the press and religion, they established a Bill of Rights for citizens too.

Today, America is strangely complacent about these rights. If allowing the government to listen in on our telephones or sift through our emails will help catch a terrorist, then why not? What do we have to hide?

But history has shown that governments, in the hands of the powerful, can be capricious and unjust in their prosecution. Cardinal Richelieu once boasted, “Give me four lines written by any man and I can have him tried as a criminal.” When government decides guilt it can surely prove it and the target is helpless. Innocence is no guarantee against a resolute prosecution. Indeed, the greater the investment of time and resources the more certain the conviction, if for political-economic reasons alone.

One of the more compelling stories in All the Presidents’ Children, gives the account of Michael Reagan, the president’s son. Michael exchanged an item in a store one day and his accompanying Secret Service guards misunderstood. They thought he had shoplifted and the message traveled along the Secret Service telegraph for several years until his father finally confronted him. Michael was devastated. It took months to clear the matter and when it was over Michael asked his father why he hadn’t believed him in the first place?

“Well,” President Reagan offered sadly, “They saved my life, son; I trusted them.”

If a president’s son can be the target of injustice, any ordinary citizen is certainly vulnerable.

Our founding fathers wanted a government that had checks and balances. They wanted to avoid injustice. And the system put in place seemed to be a remarkable improvement on anything yet seen. But even then, it did not work perfectly. Huge numbers of Americans were slaves. And modern DNA is showing how glaringly flawed our justice system continues to be.

Nor has a guarantee of religious freedom always worked. America has experienced periods of rampant religious persecution. Jews, Mormons, Catholics have all been targets. As late as the 1920s, six “know-nothings” were elected to the United States Congress as essentially the party of anti-Catholic bigots.

This is at the heart of the concern of Baptist Sen. Grassley’s investigation of six Pentecostal ministries: Joyce Meyer, Creflo A. Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn and Paula White. Grassley, a Baptist, has not named any ministries from his own church denomination. Even ministries that preach the same things and have more extravagant lifestyles are exempt if their heads have Baptist ordination.

Baptists, who see Pentecostals and Charismatics as doctrinally flawed, and who only a generation ago taught that many of them were actually demon-possessed, have long chafed under the popularity of the Pentecostal-Charismatic television outreach. Since the 1970s Pentecostal and Charismatic television ministries have dominated the Nielsen ratings. And it has been reflected by the shifts in American society. Today, according to the Pew Research Foundation, numbers of denominational Pentecostals alone match Southern Baptists and when Charismatics are added, defined as traditional Christians believing in a supernatural “Baptism in the Holy Spirit,” which include so-called Catholic Charismatics, they now number close to 28% of the American population. (A recent Barna Survey puts the total number at 23%.) It is a staggering number, but it explains why television habits of the American people persist. Pentecostal ministries can be toppled by scandal or in one case even taken over by Baptist leadership and others only re-emerge to take their place.

But so what? If they are truly innocent, why not let their doctrinal enemies take a look and see what they want? What do they have to hide? For the same reason that major newspapers and television networks will not let the public look and see what they want.

Almost all major newspapers and television networks have stringent security rules. You enter their buildings only with photo identification and add your signature to a sign-up sheet in a lobby where an armed guard stands vigilant. You slap a paper, bar-coded I.D. to your lapel and wait patiently for someone to escort you to the elevator and to the right floor. You cannot just wander the halls. You cannot rifle through a reporter’s desk, explaining that you want to see his sources in case they are lying or misleading.

The First Amendment is a wonderful thing. It allows the media the dignity and time to refine its newsgathering and writing and research without fearing that the government or some enemy will pull information out of context and release it publicly without explanation.

The same security and rights are accorded the U.S. Senate. They, too, have security. They, too, will not let you see what you want. They, too, know that information pulled out of context can be misleading and can be used to harm. The president cannot send armed guards into the Senate to take documents nor can the courts.

What does the media have to hide? What does the Senate have to hide? They have a right to hide from abusive and intrusive power that interferes with their right to do their work under the Constitution.

There are thousands of ministries and religious organizations. Many of these organizations have leaders far more wealthy than Grassley’s six, and some enjoy lifestyles far greater. They all have homes large and small, owned by the ministry or owned personally by their pastors who get parsonage allowances. Some have schools, some have jets, some have tennis courts and indoor swimming pools, some even have hotels. Some own large acreage in the middle of city centers, acreage that is worth more than all of the assets of all six of Grassley’s targets combined. Some have tapestries on the wall worth more than the homes that the networks will fly over in their helicopter videos when their attacks begin. Why isn’t there a fair way to sort all of this out? To determine what is honest or not? To determine which salary is justified and matches the doctrines preached and which salaries and compensation packages don’t?

Ah, but you see, there is. Such a system is already in place. And over the years it has been refined by the Congress and the presidents and the courts. It has all of this down to a fine science. It is the Internal Revenue Service. This agency is tasked with sorting out all of this. It may confirm, for example, that salary to a religious leader be determined by a “compensation board” which is not influenced by those who receive the pay. And, ironically, all audits of religious organizations are guided by rules that Sen. Grassley authored himself.

So what’s the problem? Well, the problem is that two of the six ministries he is publicly attacking have just experienced an exhaustive audit by the IRS and were given a clean bill of health! A third has recently hand-delivered a letter to the IRS, asking them to conduct an audit of its organization.

Since the IRS cannot do what the senator wants, he has decided that as a one-man prosecutor, trial and jury, he, himself, will take out the six ministries that have coincidently been the doctrinal nemesis of his own church for the last century. He has told us that he has been mulling this over for two years. He knows that what the courts and prosecutors and evidence and fairness can’t do, demagoguery can accomplish. He knows this because he has a powerful ally, the media.

Grassley knows that the media hates all religions (except some selected white Protestant brands, traditional favorites of elderly stockholders now in their Connecticut retirement and still possessing some small influence on their investments). The media tends to hate Catholics, Evangelicals, Mormons and any and all offbeat brands like the Church of Scientology, etc. So he will spoon-feed the story to his media sidekicks, who are chomping at the bit over these few ministries who have been culled from the herd and are thus vulnerable to attack.

It is nothing personal for the media. It is show business and food. They would just as easily pounce on Sen. Grassley’s own Baptists and eat them as well. He knows that and is willing to risk it to get rid of some doctrinal enemies. Besides the herd will just move on to the next watering hole, a little safer now that the media lions have been sated.

And how does the Media feel about being used to settle a doctrinal score? They don’t even bat an eyelash. All religious belief is a blur to them. And programming is just formula. They have already sent helicopters over the house of one ministry touting it as a mansion, from the sky, not pointing out to their viewers that the preacher doesn’t actually own the house they are showing, the ministry does, nor pointing out the obvious, that “the mansion,” which sits in steamy, sultry Texas, has no swimming pool and is built on acres of land that is worth less than a quarter lot in New York, Boston or Los Angeles. But, boy, does it look awesome from a helicopter and it has lots of square feet. So it will work for the story and the public will all feel the appropriate outrage because they will not know the other side.

So popular religious television, as we know it today, is in jeopardy. One man, with a savvy understanding of the media and the power of religious bigotry and how to use it to his own advantage will see to that. And why? Why is he doing this? Because he is sincere. Because he truly believes that he is right and his doctrines are right and the others are wrong. He is doing this to protect all of those dumb people who are too foolish to understand the false doctrines they have embraced. He is doing this for their own good. He is saving them from hell.

And when he has brought down all of their television programs and they have all renounced their fanciful ideas about healing and feeling healthy and having a better lifestyle now, in this world, instead of waiting for eternity, when they have accepted that poverty is a virtue to be relished with humility and sickness a blessing to be savored, then he will leave them alone for a while but he will be watching. From his perch in the United States Senate, he will be watching.

I happen to be one of those who enjoy learning history and reading a college history book recently I was reminded that over the course of American history, members of congress have repeatedly abused their office by placing ammendments to bills that either favor something they want or far worse to create a law that attempts to take away the voice of their enemies (preceived or real). It is why the right to question government is so important, and is really our civic duty to do. There is a reason our founding fathers established certain rights, so that government will not be able regulate or hinder our freedoms as they had been in Europe and other countries. But it is up to us to stand up and make sure those rights our enforced. The Senator wasnts to bring everything out into the light, or so he claims. But there are some areas the government has not right to attempt to expose. And they themselves are expected to live in such a way that their lives can stand the scrutiny fo the light. Mark 4:22 reminds that nothing will remain hidden, so I expect the secret motives about all of this will be revealed. But regardless, it is the civic duty of all American citizens to uphold their freedoms, because if they do not, then there will be no freedoms left to uphold.

I did not realize this intrusion was going to take on such importance. I did not realize so much was at stake. I am stunned the more that I am able to understand exactly what is going on here. I really do not know what else to comment about and still sound fairly intelligent about this matter. Each of the ministries targeted are ministries that feed me daily. I am so glad you are taking the time and effort and hard work to go on tv with this and kcm website. Thank you so much for keeping us informed.

When I first heard about the investigation, I was stunned. Then very upset- what if it were true that the Copelands and others have taken us for fools? Then, God spoke to my heart and I realized, they have not made fools of us or taken us for what we have. The reason for Sen. Grassley’s attack is nothing more than satan rearing his ugly head once again. You see, if we are downtrodden, in ill health and suffering, why would any one want to follow Jesus. Sure rewards in Heaven are nice, but what about right NOW? Do you want to follow someone that leads you into despair and sickness?
Prosperity means so much more than the media could ever fathom. It means more than having a few bucks in the bank. It is the prosperity of the soul, that allows us to soar, even though our feet are firmly on this earth.
So to the Senator (s) and all who are like him, I do not ignore, but take very seriously the threat they pose- but I know God is in control.
Things might get ugly, and when you tangle with snakes, they usually do, but God is in Control.
And neither they nor anyone else will ever stop the Church of Jesus Christ.

Isn't it true that KCM is the richest of all the "televangelists" and thus does not want their finances disclosed because when people learn that KCM is worth 100's of millions it makes begging for money much harder?

I'm fully with you on this and will share with my friends.

But who is standing up for the more than 400 children kidnapped by CPS from the FLDS compund in Texas - only a handful of whom were in any potential danger? Again, it's not about the FLDS members, it's about parental rights.

Mr. Wead, I agree whole heartedly with your assessment of this attempt by Government to police anyone who has a difference of opinion than the watered down Religious doctrine accepted by various congressmen and women. I am a former "dead in the faith" Baptist and then suddenly I came face to face with the Holy Spirit and my life has never been the same since. I would hate to see a person in any office of Government form the accepted rules and laws for worship and life in these United States. Mr. Grassley needs to be exposed for the bigot he really is. I know you are very much a gentleman and wouldn't say such a thing but he is what he is and is catering to others in the ministry who are so filled with jealousy and pride that they cannot see their weakness as relates to "Faith". Without it we cannot please God.

Thank you for your stand in this matter.

This is not a lst amendment issue. The issue is that church org and other religious groups may no taxes, are relieved from SS taxes, and the donors get to deduct their contributions. You have a 501C3 and you should be accountable on how you are spending the money. There are many cults, many are penecostal and charismatic, that are using the offerings NOT for Christ but to live luxurious lives, and abuse their followers. If you have done nothing wrong, this request will not harm you, but will give you credibility in the world's and your partner's eyes.

I have learned more about faith and the Bible from Kenneth and Gloria Copeland in the last 3 months than I did in the past 34 years. I am proud to be KCM partner. The persecution of the Copelands and other Word of Faith ministries is only the beginning. Eventually, these people will come against all people of faith. But if I've learned anything from KCM, it is that fear availeth nothing. The Battle is the Lords and the Victory is Ours!

"Fear ye not, stand still...and see the Salvation of the Lord."

I have absolutely no doubt that this assault on people of faith will fail miserably. Grassley and his henchman have bitten off a lot more than they can chew. They'll find out soon enough that they showed up to a gun fight with nail clippers.

Our God is an awesome God. Keep the faith!

Thank you for also taking a stand against this investigation by Senator Grassley. I find it amazing that he has not gone after the Muslims, Buddhists, Jehovah's Witness' or "other religions". He has only gone after the ones who are seeing people saved, healed, delivered and prospered. The ones teaching Gods Word and that God is a Good God. Just know that we stand with you.
Also, I am standing on Proverbs 29:2 concerning the elections this fall. I do not want this nation to go back into a mourning nation again like it was from 1993-2000. I am believing God to raise up two Godly men to fill the office of President and Vice President. Whoever is elected to these offices may have a great impact on the future of Christianity and the Freedom of Religion. No matter how they may try to spin it, this country was founded on those principles!

I find it sad that so many people who cut down these ministries for “fooling” people are the very ones who believe all that they read in their newspapers and watch on local news casts. I can only hope that the Christians keeping up on this story, and even the Senator himself, will perhaps one day listen to one of these sermons and blow the dust off their Bibles and look up the scriptures these ministers live by. Strangely enough, they might find out they’re in everyone’s Bible!

The interesting thing is not only how the outcome of this will affect America's future, but how it is affecting it right now. Isn't it interesting that a U.S. Senator who is a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee attacks six ministries that preach prosperity, and at the same time the U.S. stock markets crash, the housing markets crash, and the U.S. begins to go into a recession. This business is already affecting all of our lives, and it's about time the church recognizes it and begins to pray.

The rights of the Church are protected under the same Constitution as the rights of the press. If the Government can choose to simply ignore one line that grants freedom, all of the others are at risk. We as believers must not remain silent. Our freedom of religion was paid for with the lives of men and women who fought so that we could believe what we wanted to - and that freedom does NOT exclude the message of healing and prosperity.

I'm thankful for KCM and what has happened in my life since I first came in contact with their teachings. The Baptists got me saved, but the Copelands have taught me HOW to live a victorious life in Christ. HOW to actually walk out my life as an undefeated Christian. How to truly BE a Christian. Now, I am thankful they care enough, have the resources enough to stand against Big Government Intrusion into the Church. I am praying for KCM. Praying for all of our Religious Freedoms here in the USA.

So I say to Mr Robert Luchow, you do not know the Copelands and it is best for you to stay out of this. God does not take kindly to people(ignorant or not)touching His anointed one. As for Carla Rigger KCM already has credibility with its partners. I am one and will be one until jesus comes back. Churches and religions should not have tax free status. That would solve this problem.
You could preach what you want or have any doctrines you want.
You would pay IRS taxes and property taxes just like anyother business.

Senator Grassley is bypassing law that has been set in place and he was a major contributor in writing that law. It is not just about any of these ministries 'not having anything to hide'. It is about this man asking for things that are illegal and he is not willing to go through the proper channels to acquire his information. One of the most important things, to me, (aside from trying to take our religious freedom; attacking religious doctrines that have been boarder line violently opposed by his religious affiliation; not willing to go through proper legal channels, willing to strong arm his way into information he has no right to have) is the fact that he wants information about ME. Who I give to, how much, when and how often is my private right as an American citizen. Grassley and no other Senator, Congressman, Judge or anyone else has the right to demand my information from the people I choose to trust. That is my right as an American citizen and I, for one, am very, very grateful for these ministries who are doing so much to protect my American rights. If anyone wants to hand over their information to this guy, go for it, but be willing to count the cost when the persecution comes knocking on your door.

I will do whatever I can to help stop this illegal
persecution. Certainly I will join others in prayer
and God will hear from heaven and heal our land.

Some years ago, a dear friend of mine arranged for me to attend a Bennie Hinn crusade in Washington, DC. Many things I saw were strange and uncomfortable to me. However, having said that, I also experienced, during that weekend, the deepest worship of my entire life! The constitutional rights are correct, but someone needs to be telling how these ministries spiritually feed people.

It's interesting that WGN was one of the stations who re-aired Thursday during the week of broadcasts with Doug Wead. They've done similar broadcast switches, like when Mike Huckabee was a guest, David Barton. Can usually count on Fox to carry the right broadcasts, and TBN, so we don't miss anything! I would suggest that concerned voters who live in Iowa request that Senator Chuck Grassley reveal all of his expenditures since he has been in office, including how he has spend his office allowances, where he has traveled and given speeches, and who paid for it, what kind of car he drives, and how many times has he voted to give himself a raise. If his office responds that this information is oversee by the General Accounting Office, remind them that you are his boss, and require this information from him before you would be willing to vote to re-elect him.

I am glad that KCM can and is taking this on. They seem to be the only ones talking about it. I had heard a little bit, but wanted more information. Before this I thought that I was a Baptist but if Grassley is a Baptist, then I am not. Just call me a Christian Believer a/k/a Saint until I figure it out. I watch 5 out of the 6 Ministries targeted, many others, even some I don't like regularly and have learned more than I ever did in "church" from all of them. Doesn't Grassley think any Believers and especially those who don't believe have the sense to check the Bible behind these people. As far as their finances it's none of his business. That is what Internal Revenue is for. If they are willing to deal with the IRS than anybody else should really just back off. I can tell you personally that if something even looks wrong the IRS will find it. I never cared what affiliation these Ministries were, they have helped me live. I was buying and reading Joyce Meyers books before I ever saw her on television. Grassleys desire to go public with donors names is truly crossing the the line. For the legal reasons stated and in my opinion it's nobody elses' business(Just look at the Oboma and Wright situation.) This is just the beginning of yet another very dangerous over stepping of the government into what are private affairs. The government has been relentless is seperating the church from the state, but the state wants to control the church. They have already taken God out of everything and look where we are. They are firing and persecuting any teacher who even mentions Intelligent Design,Creation,or in any way questions Darwin. How many kids today even know the "Pledge of Allegence". This country has moved so far away from its foundations, it is self destructing. How long will people just stand by and watch? Remember Sodom and Gomorrah(Fred wants to marry James now) It may not matter because we are all on the clock. READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!!

It now seems that the Senator says he did not realize the six ministries he targeted are all Charismatic, that it was unintentional. I find that hard to believe since he also says he was thinking about all of this for two years. But even if it was true, now that he knows, why wouldn't he realize what this looks like to the nation and add some ministries of other denominations, including his own? There are many famous ministries from his own denomination teaching the same thing now and raising money on television. What gets me is that the Copelands never beg for money. Why on earth did they pick them?

The Senator expresses that we "the people" are too dumb to choose how we worship God. I would have to assume that he also believes that we are also too stupid to choose how we vote as well? He is forgetting how he obtained his office in the first place. I have listened to Kenneth & Gloria Copeland for over 20 years and have NEVER once heard them beg for money. They are obviously blessed by God. I have found in the Bible for myself everything that they have said and am extremely blessed also because of it. Jesus said "Greater works than these shall you do because I go to the Father", and yes he rode a donkey. In order for the greater works to be done, wouldn't it help more of the people to be able to get there faster? It just doesn't really make sense to pray for donkeys that are able to walk on water or even fly, it would still be too slow. Oops, there's that flying notion again! (oh, brother).

I for one would love to see KCM do a full piece on everything they do as outreach. I've heard some of it and its quite impressive. You could not do this kind of outreach without money you know. Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, reaching out to prisoners, that all takes money, and plenty of it. Money with integrity behind it gets a lot done. Thanks Kenneth & Gloria, and all the KCM staff, for everything you do. There are a lot of people standing with you right now.

I am fully behind KCM. I truly believe this is more a personal attack than a religious one. Sen. Grassley is just using the power that was given him to pursue and deep seated jealously of successful ministers. I have been following KCM for six years and have never seen them "begging", "pleading" or "tricking" people into sending them money. I believe that KCM, Joyce Meyer and Creflo Dollar are all Godly ministries that function under Godly principals and are not "fooling" their partners and givers. We have little rights left in this country and what we do with our money is our business not the governements. I agree with Jan. Let's see if Sen. Grassley would release all information on his givers. We all know that the government is run on bribes. Let's get them to reveal all of their records.

All these ministries are walking in the power of God and are ministries of excellency. This is just the beginning of an attack on Ministries that are teaching people how to walk in power and dominion.
This is a spiritual battle and requires praying in the spirit.

Its obvious Sen. Grassley is attacking the ministries by the way he going about it like going to the media first then faxing the request. So if Sen. Grassley was smart he would start his own tax exempt ministry to minister to other confused liberal heathen congressman. What people need realize is that these 6 ministries could switch to taxable status(if it weren't for having to provide the private info in question) and The Blessing of Jesus would still still supply all their needs even to pay taxes and double their income in a year. Christians must start voting for who God wants in office like people born again who have the discipline to renew their minds. Any of you seen the movie Expelled in theaters now? Didn't get any publicity due to the topic. Hey Christians, do you want to even have a church to feed you? Better do your part!

Oh yes, let's all pray for the investigation into Grassley's finances. I love Kenneth and Gloria and their kids and I have been blessed beyond measure spiritually and financially since I discovered their ministry. Their teachings in "From Faith To Faith" helped me to make sense of a huge problem in 1998, and I have been learning and growing under their wise teachings from the scriptures ever since. Thank you KCM for your tapes, books, broadcasts and love. This ministry is anointed along with the other 5 ministries. This is one of those times when we need to pray for the enemy. God is up to something and with our prayers He will prevail. Fear Not. Isiah 54:15-17 read it and stand on it. It works! Didn't Beth Moore experience a very big attack of Satan a couple of years ago as well? Here is a chance for Spirit filled Christians to show the world (or the U.S.) how Love conquers.

I think a lot of things are not being said here. Why are these ministries worried? Have you seen the homes these ministers live in? Do you know the money they have been spending on their personal lives? I am a Christian and I believe God does prosper His people but remember that the Bible tells us to 'avoid the very appearance of evil'..when you live in a house that looks larger than a grand hotel, own several planes, Harley's, are into many business ventures, etc...it looks a little suspicious. I know Kenneth Copeland said he told the Lord he wouldn't tell who gave him what..but if you are deducting these contributions from your taxes, the government knows because YOU are telling them. So why is it such a secret??? You cannot have it both ways..if you get the benefit from the tax deductions, why are you afraid to let people know you donated??

The greatest insult, in my opinion, to all the donors of these six ministries is the idea that we are not intelligent enough to know a scam when we see one. I would ask the Senator what does that say about our ability to vote for people like him - which I would not do.

We have supported KCM for about 15 years. They have changed our lives because of what they have taught us about The Word of God. The Senator fails to understand we have the mind of Christ, along with The Word, along with the teaching we receive from these ministries.

I think the greatest way to settle this issue is to vote these life long Officials out of office and put in people who understand the phrase "One Nation Under God...."

FAITH is all about. Not thw wishy washy message that the Church has taught ove the years. My parents believed they had to accept sickness and hardship because that is
what the church taught thme. O n his death bed my father did not know if he was going top Heaven "I've done everything they told me to do".That is sad.

it is a sad day when a ministry has to be investigated by the government for improper use of donated funds. If our ministries were conducted with openness and total accountability for all the funds received there would be no need for an investigation like this. If people want to support KKM after they know all the facts about how the money is spent that is their decision and they will be accountable to the Lord how they used the resources He has given them.

a 503c does not have to be accountable. Does not paul remind us in Titus 3:1 to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work
If we think we can use the word to twist or manipulate what is truth we are wrong Our lord whom we have salvation demands more of us then what a sentor. besides that need we not forget the Lord corrects the ones he loves and nothing happens apart form God. It is my humble thinking that these mean of God submitt to athority and give what is nessecry unless they have something to hide. if that is the case they need not be ministries because they may simple be in sin. For the record if these men of God were across the table from me i would tell them

This is a God-sized situation. Isn't it wonderful we have a God who is up to it? I have been strengthened and built up by KCM since the early 80's. They have a courage I never saw anywhere else and it is well-founded - on the solid rock of God's word. I see Brother Copeland living up to what he believes in this, and I am thrilled with it. It cannot be fun and one has a natural side to his nature. Thus I pray and support every way I can. I see Brother Copeland on the high ground and the cutting edge with his stand to protect. It is encouraging to see other diverse ministries seeing the incursion in this and writing letters to the finance committee.

Thank God we have redress in our country. We must use it when necessary, and it is necessary now. We let our God and the church be kicked out of the public arena, and now we are in the position of having to keep them out of our church. Oh no, you don't. Line in the sand. This will not stand and all of that.

We must not only hold the ground we have, but continue to take more for the kingdom. Yes believers - STAND united. God bless the church of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

My family has been blessed tremendously by the KCM since the 1ate 1970's. KCM has taught us how to use the Bible to find out about the love and goodness of our Heavenly Father God toward us personally and how to receive His love and blessings through faith so we can be a blessing to others. Then we would be able to witness to others of the greatest of our God from personal experience. Their ministry also emphasizes that we "Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ" must live by the LOVE COMMANDMENT. In addition, my husband and I are a black retired couple who are so blessed because our immediate and close extended family members now "saved" because we learned and used the principles of Faith and Prosperity we were taught. And we are also debt free, own our home and are living a prosperous life, spirit, soul and body, thank God for those six ministries and so many others like them. It has been truly amazing and disappointing for me to observe how Senator Grassley (reportedly a Baptist Christian) can seek to condemn and destroy the "good name" of Christian Ministries that believe in the same Lord Jesus as he does but who have a different doctrinal message from him. Does he not remember that Jesus commanded that we love one another so the world would believe that God sent HIM to save all of us and that GOD loves all of us as much as He loves Jesus? Does he not know that he is hurting the body of Christ and the people that Jesus loves? I personally forgive Senators Grassley and Baucus because if he truly knew what they were doing they would stop immediately and beg forgiveness to God first than to those six ministries publicly. In my heart I believe our LORD is in the fiery furnace with these six ministries like He was with the three Hebrews Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and both Senators Grassley and Baucus will know that they are not fighting against men and women but really against God. And above all like Nebuchadnezzar they will have to admit that these ministries are servants of the MOST HIGH GOD. I believe our Lord will then exalt His Name through them and turn what satan meant for evil into a glorious event like never before.

Dear Brothers and Sisters In Christ.
We should all be in agreement with the Word of the Lord here and Bless those who curse us, Love those who hate us and pray for those who curse us.
Let us not be overcome by evil, lets overcome evil with good.

Any time someone has uttered stuff or curses against me, I have uttered blessings back to them on purpose in their presence, and privately.

When I blessed them, The Lord released the Joy of the Lord and blessings in amazing proportions! I got addicted to overcomming evil with good and blessing those who curse me etc. You are of God my brothers and sisters, and have overcome them because greater is He who is within you than He who is within the world!

Dear friends,
I think it best to comply with financial records to assure accountability. As you know, Ken has been criticized again and again for greed, for cover-ups, for gross materialism, and so forth. If the financial records indicate that he is responsible and honest, humble and non-materialistic, then this accountability check will show others this truth. On the other hand, if there is any of this greed and materialism and mis-use of doners' funds, this could beused of God for good. Let truth prevail!

Why is it that some people in and of ‘the world’ feel the need to worry about poor misguided christians forking over their hard earned money to Bible holding salvation promising preachers? They always focus on money and miss everything else. Would you try to stop me if I say maxed out my credit card on the latest shoes or a frivolous holiday? Maybe I spend my hard earned measely cash on booze or cigarettes or drugs or partying or whoring or gluttony. There seem to be a lot of ‘concerned’ people when it comes to christians willingly - of their own free will - sowing financial seed into the Kingdom of the Living God and into the Body of Christ!!!!!!! I am not stupid I am not deluded I am not swindled or seduced by smiles and silver tongues. I am a vital, live member of the Body of Christ and I take my place in Christ Jesus at the right hand side of God the Father. The Blessed and Prosperity message isn’t just about money that’s just a little part of it - I am Blessed in life, in good health, in longevity, in my family, in my marriage, with my children, in my job, in my community, in my country, in my mind, heart, body and spirit, I am prosperous because God provides all that I could ever need or want because I seek not the world but Him and His Kingdom and ALL THESE THINGS ARE ADDED UNTO ME. I sow good seed into rich fertile soil, I sow not only financial seed into the good soil of ministries that preach and teach and pray the uncompromised Word of God, but I also sow good seed into people’s lives by letting them see Christ in Me in everthing I say and do and by my smiles and my love which come from God. I receice 100fold return at harvest time for all the seed I sow for every kind of seed I sow not just the financial kind. The World focuses on money because they are in Fear mode - like there is not enough, we are going to run out. The world needs to seek the father and operate in love mode - sharing mode, like there is infinite wealth of every kind to be enjoyed by ALL. Are you a WHOSOEVER? Seek God now. Call Jesus to come into your heart right now and take over your life, ask the holy spirit of God to fill you right now! And read the Bible - then take it for real - believe it, walk it every day, speak it, breathe it, it is very REAL.
You who fuss and fight and hate and judge are living in FEAR. That is why believing christians concern you so much.
Never mind, this is meant to be. The Bible tells us this is to be expected in the Last Days before the return of our Lord Jesus Christ for his Body of Christ - then all those that worry about money so much, and fuss and fight and judge and hate, can have fun serving their lord satan for a while, until their time is up and the Lord Jesus and His saints come riding in to set up the Lord’s Kingdom on Earth!!!
Oh I know you who do not know the Bible don’t know what I’m on about.
But this is not for you its for the believers - don’t forget :

“The thief (satan) cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I (Jesus) am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
(John 10:10)

“Bless them which persecute you: bless and curse not.
…Recompense to no man evil for evil.
…avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for…vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
(Romans 12:14-21)

“Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for behold your reward is great in heaven:
…Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.”
(Luke 6:22-23, 2

Believers in Christ Jesus we are at the crunch time, the devil is pulling out all the stops, as the Body of Christ rises up in Glory more and more and comes together more and more and comes into their rightful powerful place in Him, satan gets angrier and more desperate as his time draws to a close - remember he is already a defeated foe, he is under our feet!!! Walk in God’s Word live and breathe and speak in complete FAITH - NOW is the time to walk in LOVE. The devil will be using any and every means to unsettle us, to unhinge us, to divide us, to bring us down into hate into fear into disharmony in factions and fighting and disagreeing and debating, into denying and defending into doubt and unbelief. This is his final ditch attempt. Do not respond to anything with judgement, with defensiveness, with fear. Do not be angry or bitter. Fully matured and grown christians ‘be still’, don’t give in to feelings and reactions - speak only God’s Word, and love all. Have compassion for the asleep and try to save as many as possible by your example. Not by defending yourself.

“Salute one another with a holy kiss. The Churches of Christ salute you.
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause division and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned: and avoid them.
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ…and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
…I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
And the God of peace shall bruise satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. (Romans16:16-20)
Amen.”

Christians come together now, don’t divide, fuss and fight or judge. Be ONE in HIM.
Raise your voices in ONE….COME TOGETHER IN ONE ACCORD AND SPEAK GOD’s WORD AS ONE. OUT LOUD!!! God’s Blessings upon all those that preach and minister the Word of God in these times amid harsh tongues and minds and hard hearts, God protect them and keep them in all their ways as they go about doing your will God for the Body of Christ. Love and blessings to the Copelands, and to all like them. In Christ Jesus. Amen.

I totally support KCM and the other ministries under investigation. They have been a tremendous blessing in my life. They are not beggars either. I really liked what Jan and Maxine had to say. Way to go! Obviously, these attacks on KCM and the others have been instigated by satan blinding the minds of Senator Grassley and others. Let us join together as believers and take the authority that Jesus gave us and bind the power of the enemy to blind these people and pray for a Damascus Road experience for our enemies. If anyone has taught us regarding our authority in Christ, it is Ken & Gloria. I believe these ministries are doing more to glorify God, not only in teaching, but by example.

Jesus was persecuted by the religious leaders of the time and did not think He needed to defend Himself when asked about His authority. Matthew 21:23-27

Who cares what size house they have or if they have an airplane or a nice car. What we should care about is ARE THEY TEACHING THE WORD OF GOD. I know they are. Everything they teach can be backed up by God's Word.

It is through them I learned how to "walk by faith, not by sight". God is in control and He will complete the work He started in ministries like KCM.

God bless you Kenneth and Gloria and all those who serve God through your ministries.

Kenneth Copeland is already accountable: to God, to his congregation, and to his board. And, rendering to Caesar, he even accounts to the IRS. He is not obliged to account to an arrogantly unconstitutional senatorial probe.

"Allen" says "Jesus Christ would have complied," which is so stupid it defies comment.

I will respectfully say that Senator Grassley and his supporters (some of who added a few posts on this forum) are greatly misled and blinded. They also show a definitive lack of study and understanding of Scripture.

The Joyce Meyer and Copelands ministries in particular have lifted me out of a desperate life and led me to wholeness in Christ. Their teachings are biblical and have proved true in my own life time and again. I have learned more about faith and the Bible, and living a right life before God, from Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and Joyce Meyer in the last two years than any time I spent in any other denomination before. I am proud to be a partner with these ministries. And you know what? It is also our responsibility as Christians to support the churches that feed us spiritually. If these ministers are blessed with prosperity, I am happy for them. It is God's reward for the work they do. I could not put a price on the positive changes in my life as a result of these ministries. Throughout this attack, we must be continue to believe and trust God; He will see us through to victory if we keep our eyes on Him.

This whole thing is more than an attack on our Christain programing and the ministries we support in the physical world. This is all out spiritual warfare. Satan is having a temper tantrum because the good news of God's love is covering the earth and the church is being prepared for what we need to know in these last days. I am humbled and honored to watch KCM walk in love yet stand firm both legally and in the Spirit. I certainly pray for those attacking the kingdom of God right now in ignorance and ferver. I pray God will open their eyes before they have to face Him and answer the question face to face, "Why do you persecute me?" The body of Christ is suppose to be united. Jesus wouldn't attack His own body. So I know it is not the Spirit of God directing these senators. They are listening to the wrong voice and are being used by the enemy to persecute the very Lord they are suppose to be serving. God's word that is preached by KCM is truth. God's word is life, freedom, deliverance, health, wisdom, and the love of God. I've been a Christian since I was 10 years old, but I found the love of God when I found Him revealed in His word 28 years ago. Praise God. I lift KCM up in my prayers and stand with Kenneth and Gloria knowing that greater is He that is in them than he that is in the world. Any tongue that rises against them will be declared to be wrong, because that is their heritage in the Lord. And anyone who comes out against them is not sent by God.

K. Copeland has never begged for money in his life!! The second from a woman who foolishly and ignorantly lines up w/ the "you should tell all if you have nothing to hide" group. You, ma'am, are missing the importance of the big picture. We have the right to privacy. They are going after ministries today but if they succeed you and your personal privacy could be next. If an individual has nothing to hide then lets see all of your financial papers, etc.. No, we have to step up and stop it now! the fact is if we had stood up the first time the ACLU or anyone else said we can't have nativity scenes, Bibles in schools, the Ten Commandments at the courthouse, etc.. we might not be here now.

Keep up the good work, KCM. My family and I stand w/ you!!!

I have never heard KCM beg for money!

I have been a partner with this ministry for over 30 years. They have been a ministry of integrity.

I have been able to help the ministry when they come to our state and have personally witnessed their giving to people in need.

When homeless people who where ministered to and brought to the convention and had no place to stay, KCM would provide for them and get them a room.
The ministry would follow up and make sure these people found work and a home.

They are a very generous ministry giving away books, bibles and teaching material, asking for nothing in return. Their hand in not out to get, but to give.

They will load a semi truck full of teaching material and let it go out to another ministry and ask for nothing in return.

I am saddened by what the Senate is trying to do, but not surprised. They have been trying to chip away our freedoms and are expecting us to lay down and let them.

I believe the body of Christ is going to come together on this and NOT allow it to go any further.

We will learn to research the background of these people who are running for office and not vote just because they wear the tag of a certain religion or "say" that they are a christian.

This Ministry has invited the IRS to do an audit and by Senator Grassley refusing to obey the laws of this land concerning privacy and separation of state and church is a clear indication that he believs he is above the law. I could under stand if this concerned terrorism, but really if his motives were honest himself he would go to the IRS and request a formal audit. I strongly believe his reasons are not honest.

Senator Grassley and fellow senators need to be doing an inquiry on the business of the Muslim Mosques built in this country in the last 10 years. It would be much more appropriate.
Christians and our rich American Christian heritage have more than benefitted this country's government.
Would Senator Grassley and fellow senators enjoy this type of inquiry directed at their churches? We need to be fair and accross the board with this goal of theirs. Unless they are determined to be discriminatory towards one group of believers.
Righteousness exalts a nation, sin is a reproach to any people.

Our ministry is organized as a 501(c)(3) just like those in this investigation. So, we have been following these developments. We organized it that way because we started as a youth ministry and there were persons and other non-profit organizations (foundations and charities) that wanted to donate to our work--for example, give us grants-- but could not unless we were a tax exempt. We also are registered as a charity with our state. People who give to our work, may take their gifts as a legal tax deduction. We comply will all rules of the IRS and state. I applaud KCM for its stand on this issue. I also thought it was telling that each of the ministries investigated got different letters; some were asked for more detailed information than others. Not everyone wants a public announcement of their donations. Telling the IRS on your tax form is one thing; telling CNN via the US Senate is quite another. The IRS and the state agencies have the records and investigative authority to determine whether any wrongs have been committed. The Senate committee is really over-reaching.

I was saved in the late 80's because of teaching tapes I received by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland. Their Bible teaching changed my life. Their understanding of the Bible helped me to get my own revelation of God's Word and prepared me for some very tough times that came my way. I know I would not be here today if I had not had the great foundation they provided for me through teaching tapes. I have followed them all these years, and these people are truly annointed of God. They have never changed the message of what they teach. There is one thing I know for sure, this ministry is a ministry of great integrity and honesty. And anyone that wants to say bad things about these people will get an ear full. I will stand up for this ministry and their/our beliefs until Jesus comes!

I have since been baptized (aug. 2nd) and have yet to recieve the gift of speaking in tounges, however my EARS have been opened and like the servant of Elisha who's EYES were opened and beheld a mountain full of firey horses and chariots, protectors of the great prophet WHICH WERE ALWAYS THERE but hitherto invisible to him (2nd Kings 6:17) I can now hear the voice of Brother Copeland. I have known of Brother Copeland for years but was unable to grasp the meaning of his ministry until the blood of Christ himself cleaned out my ears. As a Jew I could always hear the voice of Pastor John Hagee and I believe that any Jew with manners owes that man of God a particular debt of gratitude. As an american I have always been able to hear the voice of the Rev. Billy Graham but it was only after I could plead the blood of Christ and came into covanant with Him that I could truly hear the voice of Brother Copeland, and my God what a voice it is! Brother Copeland has clarified and continues to clarify the true Power and Joy of the Blessing in a way that was literally UNIMAGINABLE to me only a short time ago. I would go so far as to consider him my spiritual father. I have made a personal commitment to tell my christian bothers and sisters of of any denomination whatsoever to pray for him and offer intersession for him as well as the other five ministries. Brother Copeland's infuence has driven me back into biblical study (I trained to be a Rabbi in Jerusalem in the early '80s) wlth a force and a fulfillment that I did not know was possible and I fully support this Man of Faith who's words and teachings and Joy in the Word has given me so much unexpected pleasure in the exercise of Faith and study. God bless Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and may he bless and prosper them and their family for decades to come.-Richard Joel Stern 8-13-08.

Wrong doctrine stands in the way of God indwelling His people at the greater levels He requires in this day. To have a soul clean enough for God to indwell and co-promote His kingdom, we must have relatively pure and mature doctrines. Some of the most popular teachers of Christian doctrine today are the family ministries of Trinity Broadcasting Network, a network boasting 70 satellites covering the earth. These ministries generally broadcast escapist doctrine in the form of rapture theology, prosperity theology and eternal security theology. God is correcting the most famous of the Trinity Broadcasting Network family ministries by US Senate investigation into their opaque finances, or embarrassing incidents or lawsuits to expose fraudulent Christian character. Rather than work with the light God shines in dark ministry places, these ministry leaders tend to ramp up their pride and fight truth and light. These ministry leaders are proving themselves worse opponents than the leviathan or crocodile God admonished Job about. And in truth, God’s worst opponent has always been pride. God was trying to get Job to see his own pride of religion when He told him about the leviathan or crocodile being an implacable enemy. This enabled Job to repent in dust and ashes over his religious rigidness. That was then. Now apparently nothing can correct Trinity Broadcasting Network, its deluded and wrong-doctrine teaching ministries and its caught-in-the-light-of-the-Lord ministers of embarrassing character. Pride is an implacable enemy. Do the ministers of wrong doctrine want God to take it to the next level? Doesn’t this level of embarrassments, investigations and lawsuits hurt enough to desire correcting the doctrine-driven problems? Or must God send them greater woe? God can easily send wrong-doctrine ministries more woe. He can do that. But must the proud ministers and their proud families prove themselves irredeemable? God forbid!

we are a new partner with the KCM from swiss. I am fully in support of those who preach the undiluted word of God and how we can apply it practically here on earth. and i think it is high time we penticostal christians(we are guilty of not) stand and speak, participate and vote boldly in the society because though we are not of the world we are right now in the world....if we dont speak...OTHER ABOMINATIONS WILL BE VOTED IN TO our schools, work places etc..and our kids would be in danger of believing a lie ...BELIEVERS SPEAK UP OR THE DEVIL IS 24HOURS INFILTRATE EVERY WHERE in the government LEADERSHIP WITH HIS LIES and get them excuted in homes, schools etc! pls let us not stop at the churches underattack but also start actively speaking and voting against for example homosexual laws etc. our kids are in danger!already the 10commandements is out, one cannot speak about christ in school but buddism, islam etc. Thanks for this website and so for listening. If USA church is silent and defeated what will happenen to africa, and other countries? already lies is spreading there too!

You are quite right Doug. If Moses was alive today, the liberal media would have asked him this question after reading Exodus Chapter 24 "Are you sure that was God asking you to take your older brother and his sons and make them priests" and we are to send all these offering to him and his children. They would have said "Come on Moses you are not hearing from God but making all these up and you know what, they would have missed the promise land.
This nation should be careful how they treat anointed people such as Brother Copeland. We know the messiah Christ has come but anyone who will stop God plan for man, he will remove. That is what the saying "I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse.” is all about.
The messages coming from these pulpits are end time message and God will remove any wickedness that stands in its way.

It would seem to me that the Senator's focus should be on:
-government graft
-government corruption
-govenrment kickbacks
-government pork barrel spending
-government reduction in debt
-government support for energy independence
-government help in strenghtening the US economy
-government focus on eliminating terroism at home and abroad
-government strengthening of our military

-and finally....not attacking the Christian community, but becoming an advocate for it.

This is only a partial list of the issues facing our country and it would appear that taking on any one of them would earn the Senator the gratitude of the American taxpayer.

My family has been in partnership with KCM for nearly 30 years & have yet to find any issue with their integrity and their ministry. I have come know members of the KCM staff and each of them has operated with the same concern for walking upright and in doing what is right in the Lord's eyes.

'You will know them by their fruits.' (Mt.7:16) Check out the fruit. Is it Bible results or not? Nuff said!

Interestingly, Jesus added later in this passage, that the trees that don't bear good fruit are cut down and thrown into the fire. Sen. Grassley might want to check himself on that part. It's a check yourself before you wreck yourself kind of thing. God keeps the books, and we'll all give an account to Him.

America bless God!

I thank God for the bright light that brother Kenneth Copeland is to the Body of Christ and for the anointing on his life and ministry.
KCM truly is a Ministry of Excellence and Integrity beyond reproach.

To the body of believers I say this, remember that we "wrestle not against flesh and blood", Sen. Grassley is not the real enemy in all of this, he's just been used by the demonic forces behind this attack. Let us pray for him instead, and do battle where it really counts, in the spirit realm,"...against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.." Ephe 6:12

Have we not learned anything from the teachings of brother Copeland?
Let us not get in strife against anyone, lest our faith be hindered and be rendered ineffectual, but rather "...love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you..." Math 5:44

I exhort you therefore to practice what he has taught us and "stand on the Word", been fully confident that "no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

Love you all,
Ed
