The Right to Worship in NYC
Dear Partners,
As you may know, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Board of Education for the City of New York have passed legislation "banning the use of public school buildings by Churches or Church groups on Sunday mornings and any other time the schools are unused." This ban will displace over 150 congregations that are currently using school facilities for their worship services.
Bronx City Councilman and Pastor Fernando Cabrera is championing the charge for the Legislature of New York to pass legislation to amend the local law and allow Churches access to school property. In the NY State Assembly it is Bill A8800 and in the NY State Senate it is S6047.
We encourage you to do two things:
- Contact Mayor Michael Bloomberg and let him know you stand up for religious freedom and the right for Churches to meet in vacant schools. You can visit NYC.gov to send him an email or call his office directly at 212-639-9675.
- Contact Speaker Sheldon Silver of the NY Assembly at 518-455-3791 and state your support for Bill A8800 and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos at 518-455-3171 to support Senate Bill S6047.
With the Lord's help, and standing together, we are making a difference for faith and freedom across America. Many blessings to you and those you love.
