The Blessings of Freedom

One Nation Under God. That is the spiritual and political
legacy of the Great Awakening. By the late 1700’s all
of America in some measure experienced the Scriptural
truth that, in Christ, all are brothers and sisters.
Highborn or commoner, great merchant or poor farmer,
magistrate or solider all were equal at the foot of
the Cross. Because of this “Awakening” people knew that
heaven was open to all who accepted Jesus as their Lord
and Savior. The equality of believers was emphasized
more than ever in American Churches. Because of this
dedication….the sentiment of equality began to extend
into civil government as well.
FREEDOM….this word became the catch phrase of our ancestors.
Here is the seed of the Democracy which would be embodied
by the Constitution of the United States. In America
resistance to oppression was a favorite topic in pulpits.
